CJ - Golden Boy

Look at me, with my wild social-life-having! Plus, a meme.

Y'all don't even KNOW how much of a social life I've got, dawgz. Today, after school, I went to Tattered Cover, where I met up with Piper. We hung for a while, then went to Red Robin where we met up with Julia (plus both of their moms and brothers, Julia's sister, and Piper's mom's friend and her two girls), and then we went and saw Man of the Year (awesometastic movie, btw).

Tomorrow? Avs hockey game at 8PM, where I will be sitting between Oscar and Julia. Then I go home with Julia and Piper, because we're having a sleepover, nice and full of me and Julia trying to convert Piper to the wonder of 21 Jump Street (we figure we'll show her Mean Streets and Pastel Houses first; others later) and me trying to get both of them to love Doctor Who. Plus, a bit of MST3K'ing of this one movie. And at break I've got MileHighCon! (Which reminds me: anybody know if it's legal to sleep in the back of a truck parked in the parking lot of a hotel during a con? And if it isn't, how likely am I to be caught?)

Also have pretty much decided on a course of action for next year. No UK for me, and CU Boulder either. Instead? I'm going to move in with my Aunt Martha and Uncle Bob, and chaffeur the twins around while taking some community college courses. After a year, I'll apply to a state college with my loverly residency. Suhweet, man. This way, I get some freedom and responsibility, but in a familiar location so it won't totally overwhelm me.

And I've swung back to forensics as a career. I know, I know, this plan NEVER ends well for me. But hey, I go to Anne Arundel Community College for an Associate Degree in Forensic Science, see if I like/have any aptitude for it, eh? And if I don't, I can easily go into something else when I transfer for my bachelor's, eh? Indeed.

Now, for fun, a meme! Because I don't do NEARLY enough of those, right?

Choose twelve of your original characters in any particular order (NO PEEKING AT THE QUESTIONS AT THIS STAGE!). Then, answer the questions that follow: (I decided to this with a nice blend of some fanfiction OCs, some true OCs, and some RPG characters.)

21JS - WHOA.

University research babble, chat excerpt, and a request.

So, I randomly decided that I should try to go to university in Wales. Yes, Wales. No, I have no idea why I suddenly smacked myself upside the head and went "Oooh, Cardiff University sounds like a great place to spend three years studying at!", but I did, so I went into full-on research mode. Don't you folk just LOVE it when I do that?

In which I babble and eventually decide what to apply for. )
Just for fun, a copy of a convo me and Oscar had. )

Also, so that I can get Tracy to write me a reference for college applications... What would you people say are my top five qualities that universities would find attractive? Thanks in advance!

What I Did Today, plus Gay Rights

- woke up (late, so didn't go to school)
- cleaned my room for about two hours
- went to Chipotle with my mom
- then went to Best Buy and Barnes & Noble, and got the following:
Is He or Isn't He, by John Hall
Just In Case, by Meg Rosoff
Hellbent, by Anthony McGowan
The Boy Detective Fails, by Joe Meno
The Frog Princess, by E.D. Baker
Clue (the movie)
Thank You for Smoking (the movie)
Magilla Gorilla the complete series
Supernatural Season One
Due South Season One
Whose Line is it Anyway, Season One, Volume One
X-Ment: the Last Stand

Also, it's looking like November 10th-16th is going to be busy, busy, busy for me! We're flying up to Seattle and then driving to Squamish for Quest University's info session. Then we're gonna visit Vancouver for a while, and check out Seattle while we're there, and then fly back to Colorado. Then the 16th, there's a "Young Women in Science & Technology" seminar I'm going to. Whew. I'm, like, getting a real life! It's shocking.

We would like to know who really believes in gay rights on livejournal. There is no bribe of a miracle or anything like that. If you truly believe in gay rights, then repost this and title the post as "Gay Rights". If you don't believe in gay rights, then just ignore this. Thanks.

X-Men - bored

I feel old now.

So. FictionAlley.org has turned five years old. I was all "Wow, really?" and then I checked when I registered on there.

...that's right, folks, four years. I registered July of 2002. And this November will be four years on LJ. Let's not even go into how long I've been on FFN (I registered 4 April 2000, do the math). I feel a bit sad now.

Anyway, I was talking with my mom, and decided that I'm just going to go to CU Boulder for college. It'll cost less (so I'll be able to save money for, say, a semester in England), I won't have to panic about applying, I won't have to worry about homesickness, and I'll already know somebody there! Someone with the same interests, academic and not, that I have. Makes me feel a lot better, having decided that. I mean, I'm going to be a history major, more likely than not (since history, I discovered and my mother agreed, is the one interest that I always come back to, no matter how many obsession I get in the meantime), which means I'm probably going to do graduate work anyway.

Yet another uber-quick update.

Boston U is now my uber-top, am-applying-early-decision, choice.

Currently just south of Trenton, New Jersey, about to leave for the final leg of the trip to Maryland. Where, reminder, I'll only have dial-up.

Still need to get my grubby paws on the first episode of the new season of Rescue Me, but I have my ways...

PS: SAT scores were BRILL! Except, of course, reading, because I'm ironic like that. Reading - 710; math - 690; writing - 690; essay - 9.

21JS - game fun time!

What I Done Did Tonight.

Went to this college thing tonight - had representatives from Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, and Penn. The guy from Penn cemented my plan to apply there (and cross my fingers that they don't laugh themselves unconcious when they read my application), the chick from Georgetown made me want to hit her (most annoying voice and mannerisms in the world, even my mother thought so), the lady from Harvard was nice and made me interested in Harvard (but I won't be applying), and the lady from Duke was pretty awesome, and I think I'll apply there too.

Also played this game my mom got the other day, "Brain Age". It's about doing simple math and reading aloud in order to increase your memory and brain power. Pretty cool idea. Of course, the initial testing was a little "ARGH!", since it informed me that my current brain age is 72 - 20 is the best score you can get. Yeah.

Anyway, the college thing went from 7.30PM till nearly ten, so I missed Crossing Jordan's season finale. So PLEASE, folks, no spoilers until after I can download it.

Precollege programs for this summer

Mostly for my use, although some of my fellow American high schoolers may want to check out the links (...do I have any American high schoolers on my flist? Do I have high schoolers at all?). And I wouldn't mind opinions from the rest of y'all, neither.

Boston University
Columbia University
University of Pennsylvania

I don't know what I'd take at BU, I don't know what's being offered at Penn yet (although the four-week intensive study in forensic science looks kickass), but at Columbia I'd do the 'Leadership in Law' thing. I'd be 100% happy in any of the locations - Boston and New York City are two cities I've always wanted to check out (I've never been to Boston and I was only in NYC for a few hours and was sick most of the time), and I know I love Penn's campus. Like, seriously love. Scarily love. (Which is why I'm currently leaning towards Penn + forensics right now, even though it wouldn't be for college credit.)

More college stuff, this time using the Princeton Review website!

I just did the Counselor-O-Matic from Princeton Review (from the link at http://encarta.msn.com/encnet/departments/college/?article=rankings2006). It's a bit cooler than www.collegeboard.com, as it gives you 'best fit', 'reach' and 'safety' schools. My top three results for each, in order:

BEST FIT
American University
Carnegie Mellon University
University of Rochester

REACH
Dartmouth College
Pomona College
Brown University

SAFETY
Ohio Northern University
Rochester Institute of Technology
Gustavus Adolphus College

Damn, Rochester NY wants me! And how awesome is it that American fits me best, and Dartmouth is my top reach school? I knew it was the best of the Ivies! I remember looking into Rochester Institute of Technology, too. Interesting... Off to investigate!

Colleges and ficage.

DUDES.

Seven-and-one-half hours from now: I shall be at college fairage at Cherry Creek High School (read: home of the dumbasses). WHOO!

Northeastern's going to be there, and I'm hoping American too. Ah, I remember the crazy, crazy bustle of the main room last year, trying to dive through the crowds... good times, good times.

I should probably go to bed, then. Since I'll be getting up in just over six hours.

I promise to bring along a notepad to take notes on/plot out my CSI high school AU fic that I maybe might write to show that it can be done well. Ooh, or maybe I'll make it crime high, have NCIS and L&O and Numb3rs characters running around too.
